Summary

Interns receive exposure to a broad range of activities from daily operations to CAD drawing to modelmaking and site visits. Research + Design practices an open door policy in regards to qualifications and previous experience. Interns should come from a design, art, or architecture background, although this is not a prerequisite, and demonstrate an enthusiasm for the arts and architecture in the broadest sense of the terms. Research + Design have hosted internships from the following institutions in 2008-2010:

. Plymouth College of Art

. Ecole Nationale Supérieure d'Architecture de Montpellier

. Ecole Nationale Supérieure d'Architecture de Paris La Villette


Research + Design are eager to mentor people with strong design and model-making skills, computer graphic skills and as well administrative and organizational skills.

The number of placements are limited and interns are encouraged to apply as early as possible. The internship is unpaid, with some allowance for travel and expenses. All applicants must be able to commit to at least 2-3 days/week.


Responsibilities  

 

. Assist Research + Design staff with both long term projects and daily office tasks including sketching, CAD drafting,

  model-making and materials research.

. Time commitment to be determined on an individual basis before internship begins

. Focus on an aspect of Research + Design–from researching materials or new construction techniques to updating digital and physical archives.


Qualifications

 

. Interest and ethusiasm in Research + Designs mission

. Desire to gain knowledge of operations in a small design organization

. Ability to interact with people in a University setting, and work in small office environment

. General computer skills-cad /modelmaking skills, word processing, data management and digital imaging are

  preferable but not essential.
