The project is located in Cornwall and consisted of alterations to the existing house hallway and entrance, and an extension with a changing area, bedroom and wetroom.

Initial ideas were for the bedroom with vaulted ceiling, ensuite wetroom, and dressing room to be located at the front of the house. After some sketch studies and further discussions with Research + Design further exploring and refining the clients aspirations, the decision was made to place the extension at the back of the house where it would benefit from two beautiful views, have little impact on the existing terrace area, and as well have no impact on the front elevation of the house which would aid the planning process.

The joinery made up an important element of the design. Research + Design put forward a number of joiners for consideration and upon an appointment, the design was progressed to construct all the joinery out of American Ash. Later this was expanded to include all of the doors, architraves, base boards, dressing bureau and bed.

A feature all glass corner window was constructed in response to a beautiful view of the country side. A full length opaque window was splayed to catch the morning sun in the wetroom.

The bedroom lighting was integrated into a knife edge wall soffit. The hidden fixtures lit up the upper edge of knifes edge on the wall and washed the light up either sides of the vaulted ceiling.
